Tailoring Profession

Trade_Tailoring.jpg

I recently dropped Skinning, a gathering profession, in exchange for tailoring. I've been doing some math lately and found that tailoring and enchanting together create an "effortless" wealth building combination. I will share the equation here. For this to work you have to keep an eye on the auction house and monitor the price of tailoring materials and enchanting materials.

For the purposes of this equation I'm going to assume a stack of Netherweave Cloth can be bought on the auction house for less than or equal to (<=) 4g. In reality, on my server, Netherweave Cloth prices vary wildly from 2g for 20 to 8g for 20.

We will also assume Arcane Dust sells on the auction house for 1.7g for 1 (My server prices usually range from 1.7g to 2.5g, averaging in at about 2g)

We will also assume Lesser Planar Essence sells on the auction house for 2.6g for 1 (My server prices usually range from 2.6g to 5g, averaging in at about 3g)

We will also assume Small Prismatic Shards sell on the auction house for 9g for 1 (My server prices usually range from 9g to 11.5g, averaging in at about 10g)

Netherweave Bracers and Netherweave Belts can be crafted for 3 Bolts of Netherweave (18 Netherweave cloth, costing, by the price given above; 3.6g) and 1 rune thread (which costs .5g). That is a 4.1g cost to you to craft this item.

According to http://www.wowhead.com if you disenchant this item, you have a 37.5% chance to get 2 arcane dust (3.4g AH value), 37.5% chance to get 3 arcane dust (5.1g AH value), 11% chance to get 2 Lesser Planar Essence (5.2g AH value), 11% chance to get 3 Lesser Planar Essence (7.8g AH value), and 3% chance to get 1 Small Prismatic Shard (9p AH value).

Now, if you take the AH value of each item, multiply it by the percent chance you have of getting it, add them all together, and then subtract 5% (auction house cut) and then subtract the cost to craft the item you get the value of the item.

So here's this item's mathematical equation:

((3.4 x .375 + 5.1 x .375 + 5.2 x .11 + 7.8 x .11 + 9 x .03) x .95) - 4.1 = .543125

That's a whole 54 silver profit for the creation of one item!... woopdey fricken do!

Doesn't sound that great but consider this; As long as you farm your Netherweave cloth or purchase stacks at 4g or less and sell the materials you get from disenchanting at the price I listed above or more (provided percents hold consistent) you will ALWAYS turn a profit (enchanting mats do not take a deposit to place no the AH)... the wider the disparity between enchanting mats and Netherweave cloth the greater the profit.

Lets look at another item; Netherweave Pants. Takes 6 Bolts of Netherweave (36 Netherweave Cloth = 7.2g) and 1 rune thread (.5g) for a total production cost of 7.7g.

Disenchanting the item generates the following mats; 18.75% for 2 arcane dust, 18.75% for 3 arcane dust, 18.75% for 3 arcane dust, 18.75% for 4 arcane dust, 18.75% for 5 arcane dust, 10.5% for 1 greater planar essence (we'll just count that as 3 lesser planar essences since they are interchangeable), 10.5% for 2 greater planar essence, and 4% chance for 1 large prismatic shard (which we will count as 3 small prismatic shards).

That makes the equation for this item:

((3.4 x .1875 + 5.1 x .1875 + 6.8 x .1875 + 8.5 x .1875 + 7.8 x .105 + 15.6 x .105 + 27 x .04) x .95) - 7.7 = -.100475

Losing 10 silver on a crafted item doesn't sound that great until you consider the possibility of a large disparity between my listed cost of enchanting mats and Netherweave cloth. Monitor the AH and look for awesome deals on Netherweave. Save the mats and sell them at peak periods when they cost 20% to 50% more than my listed price. The profit can be huge.

Now, what I want to do is to create a mod that allows you to walk up to the Auction House, automatically runs my equation and then purchases all Netherweave (or Runecloth, or mooncloth, or wool, or linen) that is deemed "profitable".

You then get the mats out of your mailbox, mosey on over to the tailoring supply person, and then click another button which automatically purchases all the thread that you need.

You then click another button and you begin making all the bolts of cloth that you need followed immediately by the "profitable" items followed by disenchanting each of them into their respective mats.

You then walk back over to the AH and place all the mats on the AH for the appropriate price. The math would look a little different but I bet it could be done.
