Poker
I play at The Hop House in Greentree on Monday and The Ugly Dog in Greentree or The Rhythm House in Bridgeville on Tuesday.
The game is fantastic. I think it's the most "human" game I've ever played.
The cards you're dealt is pure luck. How you play them is your choice. How your opponents play you is based on how you present yourself. The winner is usually the best player. The best player is the guy who is the best self-presenter AND the guy who can read his opponents the best.
Last night I was at The Hop House with a pair of Jacks (one in my hand, one on the board) against one opponent. I knew I had the stronger hand but stupidly checked through to the river. A Queen came up on the river and my opponent raised me.
I was beat. I knew it instantly. My opponents body language told me exactly what he had in his hand. He had suited Queen Ace and had been playing strong through the turn trying to bully me out of the hand with nothing. I had Jack Ten off-suit and hit a Jack, Nine, Seven on the flop. I had the hand. It was mine. But I did something stupid... I checked at the turn instead of raising. It cost me.
I ended up with fifth in the tournament last night. I've already gotten first, second, third, and fourth in previous weeks... figures I'd hit a straight.
It would be a dream to go to Vegas and participate in The World Poker Tour... just one table. If I got knocked out first on the first table I'd be happy. Just to be there would be awesome.
