How to talk to women

A female friend of mine recently went out on a date with a guy. She relayed to me how the guy was unable to hold a decent conversation. She felt the date went awful but he called her the next day to ask her out again... and the next day... and the next day... she’s ignoring him which is the woman’s preferred method of saying; "I’m not interested."

Doing well with women is almost exclusively based on your oral skills... get your mind out of the gutter (not that what you were thinking was inaccurate, just not the topic at hand)! There are many attributes that a woman looks for in a man but one big one, maybe the primary one, is his ability to connect with them on an intellectual level. The conduit by which a man connects with a woman intellectually is through his ability to speak, only later will he connect with her through “other” means.

If you aren’t any good at talking to women here are some simple tips.

1. Shut the fuck up: Women tend to be talkative creatures. I heard a statistic once that said women use an average of 50,000 more words a day than a man. It’s not that they necessarily have a bigger vocabulary, it’s that they just talk, and talk a lot.

When you are having a conversation with a woman it is usually best to LISTEN. Of course you don’t want to be stone-faced silent, you’ll make her feel like my friend on a date with a mute, but LISTEN to what she has to say and respond to her based on what she communicates to you.

Often, when talking, people have a tendency to be thinking about what they intend on saying next. A conversation is an EXCHANGE, not a head on collision. HEAR her. You’ll know when you should chime in... until then, shut the fuck up.

2. Don’t build yourself: I hear a lot of guys slip off-topic comments into a conversation designed to build themselves up; "Oh, that’s terrible about your sister’s car accident, I was driving in my Corvette yesterday when I saw the most awful wreck." Comments like that make you look insecure. Women are generally attracted to secure men.

Given interest women will dissect YOU. You don’t have to shove the fact that you have 5 degree’s from Harvard in her face, she’ll eventually ask and then you’ll have a conversation about your education. When it comes to talking about yourself, STAY to the topic at hand.

3. Be honest: Never ever lie. Even if you’re a very good liar lying often requires an elaborate set of additional lies to hide the first lie. If you’re caught lying than she will wonder what else you’ve been lying about, even if that was the only thing, and you’re chances go down sharply.

Additionally, if you have to lie to pick up chicks than you need to take a step back and change whatever it is about yourself that you’re not proud of before you have a chance with women. Being a douche-bag makes things rough on the rest of us who aren’t douche-bags so please, if you’re a douche-bag, stay away from women until you hit puberty.

 

4. Ask questions:

There is a caveat... if you’ve found that after a few minutes of conversation, you’re not interested in her, excuse yourself in whatever polite way you can. If you ARE interested, ask questions about what she’s talking about. This will communicate to her that you ARE interested.

Don’t be Mr. 20-questions though... You don’t want her to feel interrogated. Just interject with a question when it’s appropriate.

5. Elaborate: If she asks you a question, elaborate truthfully but don’t go into too much detail unless she asks. Remember the first rule, shut the fuck up. If she wants to know, she’ll ask… she doesn’t need to hear a 20-minute explanation on how Beast Mastery Hunters are superior to Marksman Hunters in DPS and PvP or how Tomlin’s record is exactly the same record as Cower’s when he started his first year.

I hope this guide helps the orally challenged men out there talk to women. Some of this stuff may seem pretty basic but that’s exactly what it is; the basics... you’ll learn the finer points with experience. And remember, above all else;
